Things to Keep in Mind:
Self-educate about the type of clothes you want.
Or you will be overwhelmed by the number of models. There are fabrics that suit certain pieces and details that are more important than others. I have learned many useful tips about materials and colors in the progress of figuring out what to get.
Do not rush and take a walk around.
Most tailors in Hoi An are very welcoming, but unfortunately, good attitudes don’t guarantee exceptional service and affordability. I’m a little too curious and stubborn to ask for suggestions from hotel staff or locals, therefore I opted for a journey. And guess what I have come to realize? Some tailors are quite underrated even though they are skillful and more caring towards customers. Don’t be shy to ask and take your time to decide!
Negotiate politely and reasonably.
I don’t know about you, but my motto is: a smile can be a miracle. Whether the price is to your liking or not, there’s no need to be tensed and upset. If the mood is ruined, I won’t feel any satisfaction from getting an item at a lower cost.
Be as detailed as possible about what you want.
The tailors can whip up something even from a picture, but they cannot do fulfill our requirements unless we are very specific with the details we want to incorporate into our pieces. I admit I’m not exactly good at describing, so I borrowed the outfit from my friend and brought it to the tailor. They are capable of copying the design and completing the orders in 1 or 2 days with a change in the materials. By the way, this was the hardest part…
Choose the right fabrics.
The quality isn’t the same between the shops. Because the materials are essential for clothing, I suppose I needn’t be too frugal in this matter.
Examine the order once it’s done.
As a tourist, I only had a few days in Hoi An. It would be such a hassle if I found out something not right in my tailored clothes. Just a tiny tip I deem helpful!
Best Tailors in Hoi An
Now that you have got a picture of how things are done in Hoi An, we can move on to the recommendation corner or, as I would like to call it, my little adventure.
Bao Khanh Silk – Hoi An
I was a little hesitant to pay this place a visit, for it was one of the most well-known names and while I agree that we get what we pay for, I didn’t have great experiences with those, regardless of the stuff they sell or the price. What if it doesn’t live up to the hype?
I came out satisfied instead. How surprising.

They are very updated with the trends, that was my first impression. The variety of fabrics is impressive, and the service is brilliant. In fact, I was astonished by how agile they were. From the discussion on the style and color to the actual process of measuring and adjusting minor changes, everything was tended to promptly and carefully.

A Dong Silk – Hoi An
Even with less prejudice for popular shops, I couldn’t help but go awe once more when I checked A Dong Silk out. They had a team of about 70 staff who were fluent in English and professional with their bits of advice. With that being said, I believe I might utilize their online shopping site to order something from home, and it will still be done excellently.
I have heard some complaints about the styles provided by this tailor shop being quite old, but it’s probably just personal preference. From the enormous collection of fabric they have, they are a fabulous shop, especially for intricate design. Think of a wedding dress, for example!

Kimmy Tailor – Hoi An
Being the curious soul I am, it was impossible for me to overlook the oldest tailor shop in Hoi An. First of all, I was invited to their upstair bar while waiting either before or after the fitting. Coupled with the wall-length mirrors and the grand staircase, their new store resembled a regal palace instead or a typical shop!

The personal guides were very attentive to details and enthusiastic about what they do. What truly surprised me was how open and comfortable they are when they offer a visit to their facility. This one single detail was already enough to steal my heart.

Be Be Tailor – Hoi An
Despite being fairly young and new to the industry, Be Be Tailor has achieved a good reputation, that’s why I decide to end my recommendation list with them.

They started off as a small shop and became an empire amongst Hoi An Tailors within a short time, and they have every reason to succeed. However intricacy you are demanding for, their deft fingers will be able to meet your standards. In my opinion, they are phenomenal when it comes to Ao Dai. The graceful neck, the seamless layers, the fitting waistline,… It will be a precious and meaningful souvenir to bring home.

How Long Does It Take To Get Clothes Tailored in Hoi An?
After considering my desired style and my budget, which thankfully wasn’t tight back then, I returned to Kimmy Tailor. I have various reasons for this choice, you see. Rumors said Hoi An tailors were super speedy, and I’m curious about whether it was real or not. Moreover, Kimmy has truly impressed me during my first visit, and I want to experience their service from A to Z.
I had a picture of a recently released outfit that I was extremely fond of, and the personal style guide assigned to me quickly did a sketch before giving me questions about the details and adding them to the drawing. As mentioned above, explaining was a bit difficult because describing things wasn’t my forte, but she has been very patient and friendly. The final result was slightly different from the original design – in the most positive way! I’m not a model, changes are meant to be if I want the attire to suit me perfectly.
It didn’t even take 2 days till I returned to the shop for the fitting, first and last. The shoulders felt a bit off, yet I instantly reported it to the shop and had the issue fixed within half an hour. Unlike other shops that either left you alone or asked you to come back later, Kimmy Tailor provided the most comfortable waiting time with their cocktail bar and delicious bites. Trust me, they truly make you feel like royalty.
Here comes the last advice on my list again: inspect the clothes and let them know if you aren’t satisfied with a detail. The customer service is fantastic, and they are going to take care of your order without complaining.
How Much Does It Cost?
This is another matter I suppose many people will care about. There are comments saying tailored clothes in Hoi An is quite expensive, but they need to see the picture from many points of view.
If you want a simple souvenir, a lot of shops can meet your requirements at a fair price. On the other hand, a well-known tailor is more likely to be capable of creating something high-end and intricate. I paid around 70$ for my order. It would be deemed costly compared to the average price of clothes I could purchase in Hoi An-Viet Nam but let’s not forget it was custom made in accordance with the original sample that was thrice more expensive.
I went home with eagerness to show the clothing to my friends and family and confidence as well. They loved it. But I think the most important point was I myself felt confident when adorning a new attire, and Kimmy Tailor gave me just that. My daily style was always casual and the new tailored piece transformed me.
Next time I visit Hoi An, Kimmy Tailor won’t be out of my to-do list. Nonetheless, with this great experience, I know I won’t hesitate to try another tailor shop. Who knows?
Conclusion
Aside from mesmerizing landscapes, Tailors in Hoi An have become an irreplaceable part of the culture here. I doubt you can ignore all those attractive tailor shops when you take a stroll around the ancient town unless you are willing to close both eyes and miss out on the exquisite products of craft!
